Abstract
This topic explores how witchcraft accusations, often targeting women, intersect with issues of gender discrimination and human rights violations in India.
It examines the socio-cultural contexts that perpetuate these accusations, the legal frameworks surrounding them,
and the impact on the rights and dignity of accused individuals. The topic also discusses potential measures to address these issues through legal reforms and advocacy for gender equality.
Speaker Bio
Dr. Amit Anand, Assistant Professor at the School of Legal Studies, REVA University, Bengaluru, holds a PhD in Law from Lancaster University, UK (2022),
an LLM in Human Rights from the University of Reading, UK (2015), and a BA LL.B. (Hons.) from NLSIU, Bengaluru (2014).
He has presented statements to UN Treaty Bodies, including the CEDAW, and his work on preventing child sexual abuse in India has been cited by the UNCRC.
His research has been featured by the UK Parliament and CEETL, San Francisco State University.
He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at international conferences,
including Cambridge. His research focuses on gender-based violence and caste discrimination.
